About Us

Inland Region Iris Society
About us!

The Inland Region Iris Society Inc. was formed in 1994 when an avid iris lover, the late Joy Wilson, had an idea to form a group which would be accessible to iris lovers in regional Victoria and NSW. Today we continue to attract members as we are a community of iris enthusiasts who share a love for these beautiful flowers. The iris is named after the Greek goddess of the rainbow because of the vast range of colors available, making it a popular choice for gardeners and flower enthusiasts alike.

Our members come together to share experiences, exchange plants, iris rhizomes and advice, and to learn about new techniques and advancements in iris cultivation. Our passion for irises extends beyond simply enjoying their beauty; we also enjoy hybridizing and contributing to the growth and preservation of this beloved flower.

If you are passionate about irises, flower bulbs, or gardens, we invite you to join our community. By joining the Inland Region Iris Society, you'll have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, gain valuable experience in iris cultivation, and share in the delight and beauty of these remarkable flowers. Iris (plant) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Iris is a genus of 310 accepted species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species. As well as being the scientific name, iris is also very widely used as a common name; for one thing, it refers to all Iris species, though some plants called thus belong to other closely related genera.
